Churton Park is a growing community of about 5,000 residents on the northern fringe of Wellington City. Churton Park School is the only school in the suburb. There is a close relationship between the community and the school with the school being the main community focus. It is well-supported by the community.
There is a broad range of cultures represented at the school, with 70% European and 15% of Asian origin. The school has a Decile 10 ranking. Churton Park School has an enrolment scheme in place and can only accept pupils from within it’s zone.

Churton Park Schools normal geographic zone includes streets arising within the following area. The area is defined by the following access points and shown on the accompanying map.
North from the corridor under the voltage transmission wires. East by SH1 motorway. South by a line extending from the motorway (SH1) to the saddle where Ohariu Road crosses to the watershed for Ohariu Valley. This line includes Silverbirch Grove, Middleton Road (street numbers above 88), Chorley Grove, Te Kiteroa Street, Cambrian street, Atimira Close, Peter Button Drive, Cunliffe Street.
It excludes Bassett Road, Hawtrey Terrace, Saville Row, Kerr Grove, Clifford Road, Ohariu Road. West by the summit of the ridge separating the Churton Park Basin from Ohariu Valley.

Situated in North Wellington, Johnsonville School is a Decile 9 contributing school of 340-380 students. It has 16 classroom teaching spaces, including a 2 classroom special education unit for children with special needs, some of whom are mainstreamed for part of the day in regular classrooms (with the support of education support workers). Attached to the school is Premier Pre-School, a private pre school facility catering for 20 children.

St Brigid’s School is an integrated Catholic full primary school for students who live in the Johnsonville and Newlands parishes. The school crest is that of the Brigidine Sisters who have been connected with the school since its inception in 1929 and its rebuilding in 1988. As such the school is proud of its rich history and constantly seeks to further enhance its Catholic character.
The school has a rich ethnic diversity with 50% of pupils being New Zealand European and the other half made up principally of (in order of size) Filipino, Maori, Indian, Korean and Pacific Island pupils. St Brigid’s is a family centred school where parents are encouraged to become involved. People communicate well with each other and the school enjoys strong support from parents and the wider Parish community.

As the original school in Newlands the school has a strong traditional place within the community. It has been educating since 1906.
The Newlands School grounds are extensive and form an integral part of the community facilities. The school has the use of Newlands Park and have two play areas in the school grounds, the community centre is close by. At Newlands School they foster interaction with community groups by offering our facilities for use and encouraging our students to participate.
Many diverse cultural and ethnic groups are reflected in the Newlands community and this provides a rich dynamic background of experiences for the learning community. The school is home to approximately twenty nationalities. The parents and caregivers provide a high level of support and encouragement in all school activities and this is evident with the support given by the Board of Trustees. Bellevue Primary School is a state school providing quality education for Years 1 to 6.
Bellevue School is :
- located in Wellington’s northern suburb of Newlands

The classes are organised into three teaching teams – Junior, Middle and Senior. The teams work closely together to plan and implement programmes to meet the learning needs of their students. Founded in 1977 Newlands Intermediate School is a Decile 9 school that draws its pupils from Newlands and the Northern Suburbs. The student population is usually between 315 and 340 students. The Intermediate facilities enable the school to provide a broad range of challenging learning experiences via a technology centre, dual platform ICT programme, music room, large library and ample grounds for sports. The school is renowned for their exceptional performance groups and specialised nature of curriculum delivery. As a school it strives to challenge, nurture and affirm their students in order to enhance their learning.

Newlands College is a state co-educational, uniformed school that caters for Year 9 to Year 13 students. The college has a safe, caring and supportive environment with a reputation for encouraging students to achieve excellence. The school also caters for International students.
The college’s ERO report in 2006 has confirmed that “the college is inclusive and provides a wide range of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities. Student achievement is celebrated.”
The report also states that the college has a strong culture of critical self-review and reflective practises, “the overall quality of teaching in the college is very good.” In addition, “students show a high level of involvement in their learning and those spoken with report that they enjoy being at the college”.
