Future Development
Johnsonville
- Johnsonville Town Centre Development – Johnsonville is the largest town centre in Wellington outside the central city and plays a key role in servicing the northern suburbs. Wellington City Council has developed a town centre plan that includes significant changes to Johnsonville’s retail heart, improvements to its transport systems, and continues its residential growth. It is estimated that from now until 2031, there will be 2,500 – 3,000 more people living in Johnsonville, 1,300 – 1,700 new dwellings and 3,500 new jobs.
Newlands
- Newlands Town Centre Plan – Newlands shopping centre is currently run down and neglected but could be a vibrant, modern village hub to provide amenity to the population of Newlands, Bellevue, Woodridge, Paparangi, and Johnsonville.
- New World Supermarket – A large step forward in the redevelopment of the Newlands Shopping Centre is securing a large tenant that will draw shoppers to the area. The announcement that Foodstuffs has gained Resource Consent to build a modern New World supermarket to be built in the next year is the beginning of the renewal of the heart of Newlands and will be fantastic for the suburb as a whole.
Churton Park
- Churton Park Neighbourhood Centre – A small neighbourhood centre is planned to provide local residents with some amenity. Currently there are no shops in Churton Park apart from a small dairy on Middleton Road and Thyme cafe in Glenside next to the garden centre. The Council has developed the Churton Park Village Concept Plan. This is a village-style plan with places for a supermarket, medium density housing, retail, commercial, healthcare and community activities. It also includes open spaces, a public park and parking.
- New Churton Park school - A new school is planned in Amesbury Drive to accommodate the future growth predicted for Churton Park.
Grenada Village
- Linconshire Farm Development – Development of land at the North end of Grenada Village which the land owners are calling Hunters Hill has begun with the opening up of the road leading to the Churton Park motorway offramp a couple of years ago. This development will expand and spread East towards Woodridge (see map). It is the largest opportunity for new development in Wellington city in the near future.
