Help plant 500 native trees in Seton Nossiter Park.

This Sunday between 1pm and 3pm wet or fine, there is the opportunity top add value to a little gem of a green space tucked away in a  valley between Paparangi and Grenada Village on the Eastern side of State Highway One just North of Johnsonville.

A short history

Seton Nossiter Park, named after Mr Seton Nossiter whose parents registered the first licensed dairy farm in the Ohariu/Johnsonville area in 1916. Seton Nossiter carried on the dairy farming tradition and he and his wife didn’t retire until he was 70 years old. During the years that the farm was in operation, many school children were taken on trips to visit the farm and often lambs and calves were taken in to city schools to educate the children.

This is a lovely spot away from the hustle and bustle of  daily life and is well used by the surrounding community as a dog excercise area, jogging or walking track, and family picnic spot in Summer and features a meandering stream, sheltered picnic area, and walking tracks to Jay Street in Paparangi, Newlands College and Woodridge at the top of the ridge.

Add your effort

The park features a small stand of mature native trees on a bend of the stream and is encroached by regenerating bush on all sides with farmland and housing at the highest end of the Valley. The Seton Nossiter Park Working group and Woodridge Planters have organised the Wellington City Council to provide 500 native trees to be planted out by volunteers this weekend.

Anyone interested in helping with the planting should assemble at the Mark Ave entrance at 1pm. Make sure you bring a spade, gumboots, glovers, and rain wear if the weather is inclement. Refreshments will be provided.
